Oh, What a Beautiful Evening!

From the Bavarian Highlands - Elgar
On the Blue Danube - Strauss
Sleepytime Bach - Bach
Moon River - Mancini
Tonight - Bernstein
And much more...

In 1896 Edward Elgar and his wife Alice wrote music
and words inspired by their idyllic holidays in the
Bavarian Highlands. They loved the Alpine scenery and
the local entertainments, songs and dances.

Elgar’s songs are at the heart of a concert that brings
us a variety of scenes from summer days, from the
‘Blue Danube’ to ‘Moon River’, from the brilliance of a
‘Beautiful Morning’ in Oklahoma to the yearning
romance of ‘Tonight’ in Chicago’s West Side, by way
of an insect encounter in the heat of America’s Deep
South! To cool things down, J S Bach’s ‘Sleepers
Wake’ chorale becomes ‘Sleepytime Bach’ in a laidback
arrangement by Bennett Williams.

A mixed salad of choral, solo and instrumental music to
distil the varied joys of summer whatever the weather.
